Opening for the Police, Fiction Plane played to what would be a nearly sold-out crow at the Scottrade Center July 2. Fronted by Sting’s son, Joe Sumner, the band put on a surprisingly solid set. As with the later performance by the Police, I mostly used telephotos for these shots, utilizing the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR and 85mm f/1.4 for the majority of the images.
This last shot of Joe Sumner is one of the few where I caught the singer/bass guitarist away from the microphone. Overall, the band was primarily backlit, with a sprinkling of white light from the front amid the primarily cool rim lighting.
