I am SO making this into a livejournal icon
Ha. You kid, but it’s probably already happened!
I really like how the photo turned out, nice lightning :)
Hey Aru,
Thanks for the comment. I did photograph Dir en grey last year when they opened for the Deftones, and I think those images got a little bit of circulation (as most images of DEG do!).
Hopefully I’ll have time to get to the rest of the portraits by the end of the week.
Had to post just one shot from Dir en grey tonight. The rest of the portraits and live set are coming up. http://snurl.com/6mcas
Thank you, Eru. This one was with two lights. More shots coming up!
For two lights, you really got some depth. I love these portrait shoots of yours!
Hey Tasha, thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. These portrait shoots are a lot of fun, and I think it’s good experience to work “under the gun” with these quick sessions before shows.
Just 2 lights? Geezzeee. You got mad skillz.
Guess I’ll have to stay tuned.
Hey Chris, thanks for the comment.
This shot was made with one SB-600 bare in back and one SB-600 into a 45″ umbrella high camera right.
To be honest, I’m actually surprised that the “little” 45″ umbrella covered these guys, but the angle and height were definitely a contributing factor for that spread.
Hello there!
Thank you for posting this!
I might have come across some photos of Dir en grey by you from last year.
I bookmarked this for the individual shots as well.
That looks so wonderful. It’s so great to see how fast you work up a shot and then Pow, it’s gotten. I just saw them last week BTW and they were awesome.
Hi Marcus, thank you. This felt like a pretty quick shoot, but I guess they always do. I’m still working on my speed – I’d love to be able to knock out a full portrait set in 10 minutes.
This shoot was a little different since I was working alone and without an assistant to help setup and move flashes during the session.
The live shots will be coming up soon – DEG put on a fantastic show, once again.
I like the lighting and the angle of the pic.
Also read about livejournal icons past topic, and sure this will be done as icon pretty soon ! ( if not already)
thanks for this pics, and waiting for the rest of the shoot:D
OMG SO GOOD. PLEASE POST ALL OF YOUR DIRU SHOTS.
and lol at kyo’s hippie head band. wtf
You know the Dir en grey fanbase so well, already, lol!
Also, I really do think Dir en grey’s management should hire you as their official photographer. Your shots are always magnificent! Congratulations on another nice shot.
Hey Liv! Ha, yes, I know how passionate the fans of this band are. I talked to the band and they said they had a photographer earlier on in the tour, but that she was only on the tour for a few dates and went back to Japan.
Thanks for the kind words, I will try to get to the rest of the images soon!
Hey Laura, thanks for the comment! I have no idea how someone would make this into an icon since all the band members would be so small, but who knows. I’m sure it’s already happened, as you also suggest!
Does your D700 perform well?
The D700 does perform well, I’m quite happy with it.
Hi there! My friends and I were curious–did you take this at the Sauget show? The date seems like it would have been, but I would just like to know for sure.
Thanks! :)
Interesting shot, you must be very persuasive to get them into the light like that as they just love to lurk in the shadows usually.
I’ve seen this band so many times and your live shoot last year really captured the mood, will look forward to seeing more photos when you post them.
This is an amazing photograph! i really love the lighting. i can’t wait for more of the photographs :D
Britti: Yes, these were shot before the band’s performance at Pop’s.
J: Ha, well, this was shot with flash, so the band was pretty much in the dark except for when the lights went off – so maybe they thought they were safe!
Hey Todd, I’ve seen these Dir en grey pics EVERYWHERE and it’s nice to finally be able to acknowledge the photographer that took such great shots… so… Thanks very much, Todd, for the amazing shots. :D
