Gojira

December 8, 2008 – With precision drumming, technical riffs, and enough breakdowns to sink your battleship, France’s death metal kings Gojira stormed the stage like a 60,000-ton reptile.

Photographer’s Notes:
Though a very short shoot, Gojira brought a very high-energy set to the stage of the Pageant that was fun to photograph.
In contrast to In Flames’ performance, Gorija felt a little more removed, despite sharing basically the same stage setup. I think this was mostly due to the different stage presences of Gojira’s Joe Duplantier and In Flames’ Anders Fridén.
I used the D3 almost exclusively for this shoot. While I did mount the 14-24mm for a few shots, the 24-70mm alone could have handled all the shots in the first three for this one.

Gojira! King of Monsters, and a pretty fun French death metal band. Post is up here: http://ishootshows.com/2008/12/10/gojira/
The second one is fantastic. I think it could use a little crop on the right side but the lighting is really sinister and the dude’s guitar actually helps make the shot. Nice work.
Hey Zach, thanks for the feedback. I see what you mean about the crop and balance, but I do like how the darker tones on the right help frame the shot.
That guy does have a wicked guitar. Thanks!

great stuff as usual.
Todd, I am passing here to tell you that I wrote a “photo tip” on the use of ultra wide angles at gigs and couldn’t avoid referring your work and linking your site. You are more than welcome to come and add your thoughts if you wish.

Nice ones, as usual :)
Red light seems to be fashionable nowadays :)) (first In Flames, now Gojira)… One tip: if you ever get Eluveitie nearby, don’t miss ‘em, they make one hell of a show (in spite of the red lighting) ;)
