Gojira

Gojira @ the Pageant -- 2008.12.08

December 8, 2008 – With precision drumming, technical riffs, and enough breakdowns to sink your battleship, France's death metal kings Gojira stormed the stage like a 60,000-ton reptile.

Photographer's Notes:

Though a very short shoot, Gojira brought a very high-energy set to the stage of the Pageant that was fun to photograph.

In contrast to In Flames' performance, Gorija felt a little more removed, despite sharing basically the same stage setup. I think this was mostly due to the different stage presences of Gojira's Joe Duplantier and In Flames' Anders Fridén.

I used the D3 almost exclusively for this shoot. While I did mount the 14-24mm for a few shots, the 24-70mm alone could have handled all the shots in the first three for this one.

My Camera DSLR and Lenses for Concert Photography

Nikon D850:
I use two Nikon D850 for my live music photography. A true do-it-all DSLR with amazing AF, fast response, and no shortage of resolution.

For most gigs, the 24-70mm is my go-to lens. Exceptional image quality at wide apertures and super-functional range.
Nikon-70-200-squareNikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR:
A perfect pair to the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, I can basically shoot any job with the midrange and this lens. Superb image quality.
nikon-14-24mm-f28-lens-squareNikon 14-24mm f/2.8:
Ultra-wide perspective, ridiculously sharp even wide open at f/2.8. I love using this lens up-close and personal, where it excels.
