Opening up for Angels & Airwaves at the Pageant, Max Bemis and crew blasted off onto the stage in a sing-along performance that had the at-capacity crowd rocking the barricade. Aside from the intensely dim stage lighting, you'd never know that Say Anything weren't the headliners from the very warm welcome they received at this show.

Photographer's Notes:

This performance was dark. I shot Say Anything's set wide open at f/1.4 with the Nikon 50mm prime for the vast majority of the set at ISO 3200 – generally a combination that opens up even the dimmest of treatments at a club like the Pageant. Even with these settings, the exposure was on the conservative side, and required a bump to ISO 5000 for some looks.

But rather than turn tail or dial it in, the one thought that kept me going during the three-song shooting allotment was Say Anything's fanbase. For a lot of folks in the crowd, Say Anything were the main draw, and I kept that in mind in my fight against the light.

For most gigs, the 24-70mm is my go-to lens. Exceptional image quality at wide apertures and super-functional range.
Nikon-70-200-squareNikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR:
A perfect pair to the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, I can basically shoot any job with the midrange and this lens. Superb image quality.
nikon-14-24mm-f28-lens-squareNikon 14-24mm f/2.8:
Ultra-wide perspective, ridiculously sharp even wide open at f/2.8. I love using this lens up-close and personal, where it excels.
