Live Music Photography Rule #98: Any jump shot is a good jump shot. Opening for HIM at the Pageant, young punk rockers Drive A delivered a high energy set that gave the perfect opportunity to put this rule to the test.
Strangely enough, as the very first band in a four-act lineup with HIM headlining, Drive A actually had some of the best and most photography-friendly lighting of the night. With the rest of the three sets characterized by rather dim and moody lighting, Drive A's treatment with splashes of bright white light made for a nice warm up.
Of course, this set wasn't without it's challenges, chief among them the dim color washes that preceded the third song's whites. But here's the secret of live music photography (and indeed any kind of photography): you only have to show the good ones.
