With the second day of The Bamboozle, I couldn’t think of a better way to start than with metalcore wunderkinds The Devil Wears Prada.
Photographer’s Notes:
Despite some technical difficulties and not having toured just prior to this show, I thought TDWP delivered in true and characteristic form.
With abundant open shade and a hazy afternoon sky, photographing The Devil Wears Prada at The Bamboozle was a distinctly easier challenge than when I caught up with the guys opening for Killswitch Engage earlier this year. Shooting at the D3 and D700‘s base ISO with blazing shutter speeds certainly doesn’t hurt.
I photographed The Devil Wears Prada primarily with the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. While the band’s lighting and movement don’t generally allow for extensive telephoto photography, I thought that this daylight shoot was a great opportunity to use the 70-200mm for some tighter shots of singer Mike Hranica.
End Notes:
With their recently announced headlining tour, I’m looking forward to meeting up with The Devil Wears Prada again this summer. Great guys, and they always put on a killer show.
Looking for more TDWP? I caught up with The Devil Wears Prada when they were on tour with Killswitch Engage. Check out the full set of images from that portrait shoot here:

Great stuff Todd, these guys are an absolute pleasure to photograph and challenging to boot. Good to see them in a change of lighting.
The title image is quite brilliant.
The tight choice of framing really makes it for me.
Hey Jim,
Sorry for the late reply, thanks as always for the feedback! TDWP are always a blast to shoot, even when their lighting is so often challenging.
This daylight shoot was a nice change of pace. Thanks for the feedback on this set and the first image. Glad the abundant lighting made it all the easier to get a nice close-up of Mike’s intensity.
