At the end of the show, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros frontman Alex Ebert eyed the barricade separating fans from the stage and asked the audience if they could climb a wall. As if thinking better of having hundreds of fans climbing onto the stage, Ebert eased himself down and sat down in the middle of the pit as he sung the final song of the night.
Photographer’s Notes:
Primes, primes, primes. Well, at least two primes: the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 and Nikon 85mm f/1.4 rules for this set. The only time I broke out zooms were during the very last song to capture tight and wide shots of Alex Ebert in pit staging a his love in.
For most of this set, I shot wide open at ISO 3200 and around 1/100.

I was just about to tweet how much I love your photos and then I come across this set. The crowd shots are something special.
At least your getting use of your primes again this year though. I’ve only used my 50mm once and that was way back in February (this year) for Imogen Heap.
Hey Jim!
Thanks for your comment, and all your support. Glad to have it.
The crowd shots came at the very end of the set. Pretty cool to see, even though I was just snapping pretty casually at that point.
I think I’ll have a chance to use and review the new Nikon 50mm f/1.4, so I’ll be breaking out primes even more in the next month or so. Looking forward to see how that lens performs in contrast to the older Nikon 50mm f/1.4.
Oh cool I look forward to your review. I’m looking at buying a D700 or the D300s in the future as a back up. When I bought my Canon I never knew I was gonna do concert photography and Nikon are much better suited for it in my opinion :)
