Portraits: Toryn Green

On tour with Apocalyptica, I caught up with singer Toryn Green for a quick shoot just before he took the stage with the Finish metal group. Lighting setup after the jump.

Photographer’s Notes:
This image was shot at 24mm and f/4 with the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 at the D3‘s base ISO 200 and 1/100.
Lighting:
This shot was lit by two Nikon SB-600 speedlights fired into two 45″ reflective umbrellas, positioned on either side of Green for a nice soft cross-lighting effect.
Cross-lighting is a simple and effective way to light, and it can create dynamic effects on the subject.

Nice shot – love the deep blacks and the fade-off of the light on the ground. Really dynamic.

i was wondering, what time of the day did u shoot this? I asked because of the light at the ceiling. Was this also caused by ur speedlight? Sorry, i had to ask coz it is my fave part of the photo. Nice work, todd…as always =)
Hey Roxanne,
This was shot in the late afternoon with an overcast sky, if I recall, so that’s natural daylight you see in the ceiling.
Thanks for the question.
