I couldn’t think of a better way to start off Lilith Fair than with indie-rock darlings Metric. However, what really surprised me was the fantastic lighting treatment the band received, which turned out to be just a preview of the great production at Lilith.
Photographer’s Notes:
Metric put on a killer show. And even better, they had the lighting to match, with nice blasts of back and side-lighting throughout the three song press were allotted to photograph.
At the center of attention was frontwoman Emily Haines, who was a fantastic subject – plenty of movement, great poses, and even some time at the very front of the stage.

Beautiful work as usual Todd.It would be nice if all concerts were as well lit as this one.
Hey Ian,
Thanks very much. If all daylight concerts were like this, it would be amazing. I was really impressed by Metric’s lighting (and all of Lilith, for the most part).
I always see such nice daytime lighting for fests over in Europe, with a nice mix of haze and backlighting to compliment the diffuse daylight.
these are amazing.
when Metric has access to good lighting it’s just… wow.
on a curious note: why do you list the lenses detached from the bodies? as a detail-freak I keep thinking which one’s attached to which.
: )
I was very happy that Metric – and the entire main stage – had such nice lighting.
I list the lenses and cameras separate because it’s the easiest and most simple presentation. The when using more than two lenses, the combinations are different, too. I generally use the lens I think I will use the most on the D3.
Beautiful lights & Emily Haines. Is there a better way to kick off @lilithfair than @Metric? I think not. http://bit.ly/bM6bri

Hey Diana, thanks for the comment!
Wow, this is awesome lightning Todd.
The shots are fantastic, as usual, but I’m just blown away by the amazing lightning you seem to have caught.
Another great set!
Cheers,
Daniel

Stunning images. I love Metric more than I could ever say.
The lighting is perfect, too.
Hey Ash, thanks very much. Metric had what I’d say would be nearly perfect lighting for playing so early in the day (relatively). Really a nice effect of accents to the open shade.
