I came for Metric, but I’m glad that I stayed for Mary J. Blige. For me, MJB stole the show at Lilith Fair, hands down. Great lights, supreme confidence in the stage performance, a killer cover of “Stairway to Heaven.”
Photographer’s Notes:
This show was just fun. Mary J. Blige put on such a great show under such nice lights, it made shooting a cakewalk.

BJB was constantly working the stage during the first three songs, so I shot primarily with the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. The new mark II version of the lens did a great job at keeping up with the singer on the D3 set to AF-C for continuous focusing.

Did she really do Stairway To Heaven justice? Nice photos. Good to have an easy time now and then isn’t it.
Is that the new lens you are going to be reviewing? Or have you already done one and I’ve missed it…
Jim.
Hey Jim,
I was a little shocked, but in my opinion, she rocked Stairway. I certainly wasn’t expecting it, but it was really a cool rendition. All in all, Lilith Fair was pretty easy – the lights for all the acts were great.
Yes, the new Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II is the lens I’ll be reviewing, once I can get everything together for it. It’s on loan to me from B&H – I have the old Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8, so I’ll be doing some comparisons if possible.
Todd, this series is stunning. Lighting just sets it off so well. Great job.
Hey Dustin, thanks very much. The production for all of Lilith Fair on the main stage was just great. Really nice all around, and for Mary J. Blige especially.
I think I speak for every girl in the world right now when I say: you have got to provide us with some close-ups of those shoes. Like, now.
Let me see what I can do. They’re crazy shoes – sort of like a gold nugget for platforms, and then a 4-5 spike heel.
