Preview: Of Montreal @ The Pageant

To go along with the preview of Janelle Monáe, who kicked off the evening, here's a little preview for Of Montreal's performance at the Pageant last night. In contrast to the band's early performances where everyone was pretty much up front, singer Kevin Barnes was clearly the center of attention for this show.

Photographer's Notes:

This show was, as expected, pretty nuts, and like the last national tour, featured a whole lot of Kevin Barnes dancing amid costumed characters. This preview image is from one of the instances when Barnes was a little more solo.

Cameras Used: Nikon D700

Lenses Used: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8

This is the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 shot at 16mm on the full-frame Nikon D700. The 14-24mm is just one of those lenses that is wrong most all of the time, but when it works, it just works. I will say that for Of Montreal's shows, the lens is probably a little more useful than it normally is, due to the lack of monitors on stage, the large cast, and just the general insanity of the whole production.

Ultra-wide perspective, ridiculously sharp even wide open at f/2.8. I love using this lens up-close and personal, where it excels.
