Family Force 5 have been rocking Warped Tour for several years now, and 2011's festival circuit was no exception. These guys always put on a great performance.

One of the things I loved about this show was the balloons the band wore for their first song, which included B&W portraits of each band member. For a festival atmosphere, I thought this idea of introducing a larger-than-life aspect to the show was a clever addition, and perfect for helping fans farther out in the crowd identify band members.

Photographer's Notes:

Cameras Used:

  • Nikon D3
  • Nikon D700

Lenses Used:

Photographing a show like this takes some focus. With Family Force 5, there's constantly something happening on stage, so as a music photographer, you have to know what to shoot and when. I think it would be too easy to get a bit lost with all the frantic

My Camera DSLR and Lenses for Concert Photography

For most gigs, the 24-70mm is my go-to lens. Exceptional image quality at wide apertures and super-functional range.
Nikon-70-200-squareNikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR:
A perfect pair to the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, I can basically shoot any job with the midrange and this lens. Superb image quality.
nikon-14-24mm-f28-lens-squareNikon 14-24mm f/2.8:
Ultra-wide perspective, ridiculously sharp even wide open at f/2.8. I love using this lens up-close and personal, where it excels.
