Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of shooting the Airborne Toxic Event at the Marathon Music Works for Red Bull. This concert was part of their Sound Select concert series. My job was to capture the badassery of the show — an easy task when the headlining band in question are the Airborne Toxic […]
There are just some opportunities that take a few years to realize. This weekend, I had the pleasure of being part of one such opportunity and adding “international music photographer” to bio as part of the official photo team for Leeds Festival in the UK.
With Leeds Festival 2013 wrapped up last weekend, I thought I’d do a quick preview. I’ll be posting a full set of my favorite images next week, but here’s a few to give you a little flavor of what went down in Yorksire.
I was almost surprised when I saw that there was only one opener for Fall Out Boy on their Save Rock and Roll tour. Regardless, the Unlikely Candidates put on a energetic opening performance that made a surprisingly effective use out of simple lighting.
After years away, Fall Out Boy made a triumphant return to the Pageant in a sold out show for their fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll. The energy for this show was infectious — it’s always a thrill to shoot a sold out show, but on top of that, the production for this tour was […]
Here’s a quick three-image preview from Fall Out Boy’s recent show at the Pageant. Lights were blazing for this gig!
Photographing single concerts on a tour are hard enough. Add in to the mix unpredictable weather, multiple stages, multiple days, and more bands than you can count, and you have your typical summer festival. Even for one-day festival style tours like Warped Tour and Mayhem Fest in the US, festival photography can be as challenging […]
Alt rock band Garbage were one of the bands that seemed to dominate the mid-1990s airwaves, and I was excited to catch them at the Pageant on their 2013 tour. I’d heard mixed reports about the lighting for this tour, but I always like a challenge. Right out of the gates, the production kept me […]
A Day To Remember are known as one of the hardest working bands among their peers; a minute into one of their live shows just confirms that fact. These guys put on a relentlessly entertaining show from start to finish. When ADTR rolled into town, I was excited not only to photograph the show, but […]
Here’s a quick four image preview from Garbage at the Pageant last night. Great, high energy show, the band’s die-hard fans seemed to love every second of this gig.
Just a quick preview from A Day To Remember performing at the Pageant. I loved the intensity of Jeremy McKinnon in this lead shot so much I figured it was worth breaking the standard format of www.ishootshows.com’s homepage to feature it first. Let me know if you approve.
Opening for Tegan and Sara, DIANA was a great warm up in this shoot where I used the Nikon D600 exclusively. How did the D600 perform? Just check the full set for the answer.
When the Nikon D800 was release, the matching Nikon MB-D12 battery grip created a little minor outrage. Despite being basically a piece of injection molded plastic, the MB-D12 had a retail price of $450, or nearly twice the price of the Nikon D700′s battery grip. While most photographers are willing to pay a little bit of […]
Tegan & Sara put out some great music and have some fantastically devoted fans, so I was really excited for their show at the Pageant on their Heartthrob tour. The lighting designer gods has other plans, however—we did the best we could with the red and blue lighting that dominated the first three songs for […]
Dave Mustaine with a guitar in his hands in front of a big stack of Marshalls. What else do you need?
Rob Zombie is one of those performers who never fails to deliver. Even if you’re not a fan of his music, Zombie is a consumate entertainer. Between the costumes, engaging stage banter, and all out rocking this man does on stage. Add in the world class musicians Zomnbie works with, including drummer Piggy D. and […]
The first and last time I photographed Bloc Party was in 2007, hot off their success of Silent Alarm. Fast forward six years three albums later, and it almost felt like a bit of a personal challenge to shoot these guys again—and to see what all those years of touring have done for the band’s […]
When event photography like sports photography or live music photography, where the action can often happen far back from where official media photographers are positioned, even professional photographers can be put in situations where their go-to photo gear simply isn’t enough. Enter the super-telephoto lens rental. My choice is with my friends at LensProToGo.com. This […]
When your most popular single is titled “Lights,” it makes one wonder what kind of stage treatment you’re going to bring on tour. Ellie Goulding brought a first class light show and vocals to her sold out performance at the Pageant. Despite a third song filled almost entirely with red lights, this show was still […]
Just a quick preview of Bloc Party at the Pageant. While normally I’m not a fan of big monitors (especially at a venue like the Pageant, which has a relatively tall stage), they can at times give structure to certain compositions.
Quick preview of three images from Ellie Goulding performing to a sold out crowd tonight at the Pageant.
This is why you shoot f/1.4 primes. IO Echo opening for Bloc Party at the Pageant on their 2013 tour.
The ever-fantastic Grace Potter and the Nocturnals kicked off their 2013 tour at one and only Pageant concert club. I was excited for this show before I found out that it was the tour opener, but even more so after the fact. The band kicked off the show with the high energy Paris and just […]
