Lighting Diagrams – You want ‘em?

Screen shot 2010-07-02 at 8.48.30 AM

I’ve been playing around with the idea of providing lighting diagrams to supplement the write-ups of the band portrait/promo shoots that I do. The illustrations would include plan-views of the setups, including placement of the subjects, lighting equipment, modifiers, and so forth.

Portaits: Slayer

July 22, 2009 – What do you do when you get five minutes with thrash metal kings Slayer? You make sure you know all of the band member’s names, you dial in your lights, and you don’t think about the fact that they’ve been crushing eardrums and melting faces since the time you were in [...]

Just before their headlining performance at the Blender Theater in NYC, Semi Precious Weapons took some time out to  to do a set of promos with the Owyoung Brothers. Portraits: Semi Precious Weapons

While it was freshly swept, I had my reservations: there’s only so clean a club’s tile floor can be. And yet, when I asked the members of Semi Precious Weapons to lie down, they were on all fours before I could even finish the sentence.

Dir en grey: One from the Shoot

Here’s just one shot from the quick portrait shoot I did with Japanese rockers Dir en grey.

Portraits: Novella

The boys of metalcore band Novella have been making a splash on the scene, from playing Warped Tour to a public beef with The Devil Wears Prada. In between all the notoriety, I caught up with the guys for a photo shoot downtown at a posh hotel.

Dresden Dolls Promo Shoot — 2008.01.06

Starting off 2008 properly, I photographed the Dresden Dolls in two very spur of the moment shoots before their performance at the Pageant. As anyone who has seen their live show can attest, this duo puts on an electric performance, and the two quick sessions we did were no less engaging as a photographer.
