Headlining the Halloween Hootenanny Tour stop at the Family Arena, Rob Zombie and crew ripped into their set with signature zeal and showmanship. While I’d caught Rob Zombie on the Mayhem Fest tour earlier this year, I was just as excited to see what the band would bring this time around.

Opening up for Papa Roach, Skillet tore up the Pageant in a hugely energetic show that was simply a blast to photograph.

After Papa Roach’s killer performance last year at the Scottrade Center supporting Breaking Benjamin, I was psyched to hear that they were coming back to the Pageant. With killer lights, rockstar moves from frontman Jacoby Shaddix and guitar hero antics from Jerry Horton, there’s a lot to like about PR’s show. The only question for [...]

Preview: John 5, Rob Zombie @ The Halloween Hootenanny

Don’t tell Rob Zombie, but he always plays second fiddle for me – When I shoot a Zombie show, my favorite subject is his guitarist, John 5. Sure, Zombie has dreadwhips going for him, but there’s something magnetic about John 5′s more reserved intensity (I know, this is relative – how reserved can you be [...]

Opening up the The Halloween Hootenanny with Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie, Murderdolls put on a fantastic show that proved that showmanship trumps spastic lighting design.

Performing after a long rain delay and an epic lighting storm. hard rockers Tesla proved that the show must go on. While all the guys of Tesla rocked, for me, this show was all about Frank Hannon and his Gibson Flying V.

As far as I’m concerned, any performance where the singer comes out to rock the barricade during the first three songs is a good one. Such was the case with singer J. Loren Wince and Hurt’s mainstage performance at Pointfest 27, supporting Avenged Sevenfold.

Screen shot 2010-08-06 at 10.17.22 AM

Capping the metal Mayhem Fest, nu metal pioneers Korn stormed the main stage in what was one of the most challenging – and rewarding – sets of the day. Spastic lights, heavy thrashing, and a line of imposing monitors at the front of the stage meant press had to bring their A-game for this intense [...]

Love him or hate him, Rob Zombie is an undeniable showman, and his performance at Mayhem Fest 2010 was the perfect showcase for his twisted circus. With plenty of pyrotechnics, theatrics, and the one and only John 5  as his lead axeman, Zombie was guaranteed crowd-pleaser for Mayhem.

Just a preview shot of guitarist John 5, performing with Rob Zombie at Mayhem Fest 2010. As always, John 5 was a treat to photograph, and, I dare say, a better subject than Rob Zombie himself during their performance at the festival.

Metallica

November 17, 2008 – Welcome to Crushville, population 15,000. Playing well into their third decade, Metalllica brought the pummel-fest as the World Magentic Tour came to the big house of the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

Disturbed @ Mayhem Fest

Lead by the ever-intense David Draiman, Chicago’s hard rocking alt-metal sons Disturbed delivered a crushing set as one of the headlining bands on Mayhem Fest 2008.

Photos: Avenged Sevenfold, Taste of Chaos Tour 2008

What’s more sweet than one guitarist playing at the front of the stage, one foot up on the speaker monitor? Two guitarists, one right-handed, the other left-handed, each with a leg up on a monitor, mirrored in perfect, hard rock harmony. It’s kind of a beautiful thing.

The Raconteurs @ the Pageant — 2008.06.12

You gotta love the Raconteurs: Big, bright lights, rock star riffs, and two lead singers for the price of one.

Chevelle @ the Pageant — 2008.04.16

Three-members strong, Chevelle double-fisted the whoopass as the hard rock band laid down a pummeling set at the Pageant for a sold-out crowd.

The Cult @ the Pageant — 2007.11.29

Almost 25 years after their formation, the Cult laid down a solid performance of no-nonsense hard rock at the Pageant.

Avenged Sevenfold @ the Pageant — 2007.11.06

Right out of the gate, you have to recognize one simple fact. These guys are rockstars. Unleashing a furious set on the sold-out crowd, Avenged Sevenfold brought to their rabid fans a dynamic mix of heavy metal and hard rock tinged with notes from their metalcore roots.
