Trivium closed down the Jägermeister stage at Mayhem Fest. At one point about halfway through their performance, singer Matt Heafy paused to encouraged the audience to essentially do whatever they wanted to do to enjoy the show, whether it was relaxing or getting sweaty in the pit, in contrast to other bands of the day [...]

After Godsmack took the stage, frontman Sully Erna announced that the band didn’t bring any fancy effects, confetti, or pyro. They only brought the rock show, and then proceeded to demonstrate that fact. For me, this was an excellent shoot due to how well drummer Shannon Larkin was lit, not to mention the great expressions [...]

For me, Machine Head was one of the highlights of Mayhem Fest 2011 as they opened the main stage and got the crowd rocking before Megadeth. Machine Head’s set was lit with the perfect combination of daylight and stage lighting, and a nice bit of haze to help kick up the effects. After being jealous [...]

Slayer @ Mayhem Fest

How was Slayer’s set? In a word: Epic. These guys have been crushing it for almost 30 years, so it was a pleasure to see that they still have the chops to pummel a crowd of thousands with the metal hammer.

Portaits: Slayer

July 22, 2009 – What do you do when you get five minutes with thrash metal kings Slayer? You make sure you know all of the band member’s names, you dial in your lights, and you don’t think about the fact that they’ve been crushing eardrums and melting faces since the time you were in [...]

Mayhem Fest: All Access

My credentials (and a few souvenirs) from Mayhem Fest 2009. I’m back from Mayhem Fest, but the work is just starting. I’ll be working on the deliverables into the wee hours of the morning, but here’s a snap of the passes from the event.

Underoath @ Mayhem Fest

Led by the charismatic Spencer Chamberlain, metalcore goldenboys Underoath delivered a frenetic set that had the barricades heaving and the crowd surfers coming in waves.

Slipknot @ Mayhem Fest

Even before the kabuki curtain drop, the crowd is chanting in the dark, calling for nine masked men.

Disturbed @ Mayhem Fest

Lead by the ever-intense David Draiman, Chicago’s hard rocking alt-metal sons Disturbed delivered a crushing set as one of the headlining bands on Mayhem Fest 2008.

Machine Head @ Mayhem Fest

California-grown Machine Head brought the powder kegs and the fire in their performance at Mayhem Fest. Headlining the Jägermeister stage, the heavy metal four-piece ripped into their set with an intensity matched only by their ferocious fan base.

One from Mayhem: Slipknot

Here’s just a taste of Mayhem from Slipknot’s performance.
