Photos: Skrillex @ The Pageant
Returning to the Pageant for the second time in i2011, Skrillex upped the ante with a huge production, at the heart of which was a projected avatar that was animated in real-time to mimic the DJ’s every motion.
Photos: Skrillex @ The Pageant
I hadn’t photographed many DJs or electronica musicians until this year, but I’ve more recently had the opportunity to catch a few, including Paul Oakenfold, Tiësto, and Bassnectar. The latest to this list is rising star Sonny Moore, AKA Skrillex, who shook the foundations of the Pageant and a sold-out crowd with all the wobble [...]
Photos: DJ Tiësto @ The Pageant
Superstar DJ Tiësto turned The Pageant into a sweaty, throbbing dance club that seemed to have all the boundless, high energy of a festival performance mixed with the intimacy of a nightclub.
Preview: Tiësto @ The Pageant
I have to admit – the energy & vibe for Tiësto’s show at the Pageant could go toe to toe with any arena rock show. Here’s a preview from tonight’s show.
Photos: Legends of Hip Hop Tour 2011
The Legends of Hip Hop Tour 2011 rolled through the Chaifetz Arena along with some of hip hop’s earliest and most influential artists, including Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, Salt ‘n Pepa, Biz Markie, Kurtis Blow, and MC Lyte.
Photos: Flogging Molly @ The Pageant
Simply put, Flogging Molly probably put on one of the most entertaining live shows around, in no small part due to the seemingly limitless energy of singer Dave King. I’ve photographed Flogging Molly a couple times over the last few years, and every time it’s been a joy. As mentioned previously, Dave King is [...]
Photos: Interpol @ The Pageant
Three words come to mind for Interpol’s stage treatment at their Pageant show: Moody. Dark. Perfect.
Photos: School of Seven Bells @ The Pageant
I didn’t know anything about School of Seven Bells going into this concert, but I came away a little bit in love with this band after their opening performance for Interpol at the Pageant. With a lush, layered sound and the lighting treatment to match, School of Seven Bells was a treat. Even though their [...]
Review: 11″ MacBook Air – The Mobile Photographer’s Laptop?
When the original MacBook Air debuted in 2008, the general reception seemed to be, “Cool – but I’ll pass.” Moreover, due to its premium price point and underpowered offerings, professional photographers didn’t even give the first generation a passing glance. On the release of the second generation of MacBook Airs in late 2010, the new [...]
Photos: Foxy Shazam @ The Pageant
I’d heard the stories about Foxy Shazam. And after photographing their live show opening for Hole, now I know. Now I know.
Preview: Girl Talk @ The Pageant
Here’s a quick preview from Girl Talk’s dance party at the Pageant last night. Not that this should come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the live shows of Gregg Gillis, but this gig was nuts. There was calamity on the dance floor to be certain, but what’s more, the shooting conditions of this [...]
Review: Nikon D7000 – Nikon’s Best DX Camera
Looking at the new Nikon D7000′s specs, you might be right to confuse the newest DX DSLR as a replacement for the Nikon D300s at first blush. After all, it features many of the same specs, as well as some new features and flat-out improvements to Nikon’s DX line of cameras. Let’s take a [...]
Photos: El Monstero
Epic. That’s the word that most readily comes to mind to describe El Monstero’s show for 2010, which featured a gigantic stage in-the-round to bring Pink Floyd’s masterpieces to the masses.
Preview: El Monstero @ The Pageant
Just a preview of El Monstero performing at the Pageant – and equally notable, the huge production and setup they crammed into the venue.
Photos: Brookroyal @ The Pageant
You know what I love to see? A band that rocks out so hard that not even horrible lighting can stop the goodness from being captured in pixels. Brookroyal is one of those bands, so when they opened for My Chemical Romance, I knew I had to catch their performance – lighting be damned.
Photos: My Chemical Romance @ The Pageant
I never had the opportunity to photograph My Chemical Romance in the glory days of the hugely theatric Black Parade days, when the band was rocking out with spotlights, costumes, and all that glorious high production. But photographers: Never fear. The band is still a blast to shoot. But you better come prepared, or they [...]
Preview: My Chemical Romance @ The Pageant
Here’s a small preview from My Chemical Romance’s sold-out performance at the Pageant this week – the one and only Mikey Way. Another snap of his bro Gerard after the jump.
Photos: Sick Puppies @ The Pageant
Australian rock trio Sick Puppies stormed the Pageant with their signature high-energy smackdown. With spotlights up in the balcony, I dare say that this was the best-lit Sick Puppies show I’ve had the pleasure of covering. And not a drop of that light went to waste – I needed ever watt freezing the action for [...]
Photos: Saves The Day @ The Pageant
Hearing Saves The Day open for Say Anything and Motion City Soundtrack was a trip back about ten years. The band’s lighting, however, was challenging enough that it drew me back to the task at hand, which was shooting wide open with a trio of primes and thanking the good engineers at Nikon for the [...]
Photos: Jonsi @ The Pageant
As far as I’m concerned, Jónsi is the reason for Vibration Reduction (Image Stabilization) technology in photography exists. With the extremely low light and low level of movement in the singer, this show was the perfect – and necessary – setting for better shooting through technology.
