Photoshoot: Melissa Etheridge
Your favorite music photographer siblings had a great shoot with rock icon Melissa Etheridge as she celebrated the release of her tenth studio album, Fearless Love. Photos: Cobra Starship
Not only do Cobra Starship make “Good Girls Go Bad,” the dance-rock heroes can make a floor heave with the best of ‘em. Led by frontman Gabe Saporta, the Cobras closed out the night after performances by 3OH!3, Travie McCoy, and I Fight Dragons at the Uptown Theater.
Celebration Day: Led Zepplin Tribute
After photographing El Monstero late last year, I knew that I’d have to catch Celebration Day. Comprised of many of the same band members and crew as the bigger Pink Floyd tribute, Celebration Day channeled Led Zepplin in an epic, three-hour rock fest of two sold-out shows. Here are the photos from the first night.
Wilco @ Farm Aid 2009
Performing at the annual Farm Aid benefit concert, midwest alt-rock heroes Wilco delivered one of the fan-favorite performances in a day filled with big performances.
Neko Case & Sarah Harmer
Under simple lighting, songstress Neko Case delivered an light and lively show. With a dim stage treatment, I broke out the fast primes and utilized VR to bring it home.
Meese
Under blooming backlights and a stage covered in haze, Denver four-piece Meese rocked the Pageant in support of Ludo on the Broken Bride tour.
Neil Young @ Farm Aid 2009
Neil Young was one of the reasons I was most excited for Farm Aid, due to the fact that the singer infrequently allows photographers access to him, and the yearly benefit is one of those rare occasions.
Manchester Orchestra
Bathed under moody lighting, Manchester Orchestra threw down a raw set opening for Brand New at the Pageant. This was a dark show, but plenty of haze over the stage provided a nice opportunity to play with exposure and create a more interesting image than would be possible with a “faithful” capture.
The Academy Is…
Pop Punkers The Academy Is… put on a lively performance, that, despite bizarrely bad lighting for photography, was a blast to photograph and which served as a great warm up for Blink-182‘s reunion tour.
Willie Nelson @ Farm Aid 2009
The cover of the October 8, 2009 Riverfront Times featuring my photo of Willie Nelson. The granddaddy himself, Willie Nelson, closed out Farm Aid 2009 in a blowout performance that had the crowds on their feet and singing along in the perfect end to the benefit concert.
Brand New
With a heavily backlit set and dramatic underlighting, Brand New ripped into their sold-out show at the Pageant in support of their 2009 release, Daisy.
Fall Out Boy
Supporting Blink-182 on their 2009 reunion tour, pop punkers Fall Out Boy gave a fun, crowd-pleasing performance under a rich set of color washes and accents.
Green Day
August 11, 2009 – Catching up with Green Day on their arena-busting 21st Century Breakdown Tour was a rush, to say the least. Two songs, three aging punk rockers, and 15,000 screaming fans later, here are the goods.
Sonic Youth
Playing at sunset under dappled skies, alt-rock granddaddies Sonic Youth laid it all out for one of the best free concerts of the Live on the Levee music series under the St. Louis Arch. The glorious light lasted just one song, and after another we were out.
Def Leppard
July 20, 2009 – Playing the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater to a rowdy, grinning crowd of die-hard fans, Dep Leppard showed off why they were among the titans of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
I Shoot Shows: As Seen On TV
Your friendly neighborhood concert photographer, hard at work. I was recently interviewed for a quick TV segment that aired with a pre-concert special for Sheryl Crow’s performance for the MLB All-Star game in St. Louis.
Kid Rock
July 21, 2009 – I have to admit – Kid Rock’s stage performance really impressed me. I’d heard he put on a good live show, but his highly energetic and well tuned performance left me with one singular thought: This guy is a rock star.
Incubus
July 24, 2009 – Packing out the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, late-90s rock powerhouse Incubus threw down a fiery set that proved that they still have the chops and the stage performance that made them stars.
The Jonas Brothers
July 28, 2009 – It’s just an average Tuesday night with the Jonas Brothers: Joe, Nick, Kevin, and 15,000 of their closest friends.
