In July, I caught up with the Cancer Bats while they were on tour with As I Lay Dying and Underoath for The Cool Tour 2010. For these shots, I used a simple two-light set against a simple backdrop for a slightly moody shot with a little graphic pop.

Nothing like a weekend day in the park – especially when that day features great live music. Kicking off the first-ever LouFest properly, Saturday’s lineup included bands like Broken Social Scene, Built to Spill, Airborne Toxic Event, Titus Andronicus, Lucero, and more. Here’s a set of photo highlights from the day.

April 9, 2009 – When All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter dons his sparkly purple shell-toes and performs in front of half a dozen stacks of crowd-blinders, you know it’s going to take a little speed and a lot of luck. But either way, you have to make it happen. Failure is not an option.

The Pageant is packed with kids wearing black t-shirts who all want three things: face-melting riffs, pummeling double-bass, and a guitarist who isn’t afraid to wear a cape. Headlining four performances and following Dillinger Escape Plan, Killswitch Engage delivered on all accounts with a heavy dose of melodic metal that had the pit heaving.

For the second time in a week, I had the opportunity to photograph a gig with my brother, Chris Owyoung of OneLouderPhoto.com. Wearing a shimmering dark gray dress, Regina Spektor flew through a quick set that clocked in just over an hour, including the encore. Having played the small, 300-capacity Creepy Crawl almost exactly a year ago, it was rewarding to see Spektor playing the Pageant to 2,000 smiling fans in a sold-out show.

This past weekend was one of strange contrasts and saw me shooting metalcore band Bleeding Through one night, who opened for HIM, and then famed traditional pop and jazz singer Tony Bennett the next. Images from Bleeding Through are already up in the previous post, while those from Bennett’s performance are coming up. In addition, [...]
