When Against Me took the stage at the Pageant and the big beautiful white lights came up, you should have seen the look on my face.

After hearing so much about their chaotic and wonderfully photogenic live show, I finally got my crack at Gogol Bordello breaking in the main stage during the second day of Lollapalooza 2008.

Opening up for Angels & Airwaves at the Pageant, Max Bemis and crew blasted off onto the stage in a sing-along performance that had the at-capacity crowd rocking the barricade. Aside from the intensely dim stage lighting, you’d never know that Say Anything weren’t the headliners from the very warm welcome they received at this [...]

Mariachi El Bronx

Mariachi El Bronx – the more melodic alter-ego of hardcore punk band The Brox – rocked Pop’s in all it’s seven-piece, charro outfit glory. Set up on the sidestage of Pop’s, I had my doubts about this show, but the intimate, small-club feel of this gig was a lot of fun to experience and photograph.

Mixing punk and folk stylings, former Million Dead frontman Frank Turner delivered a rocker of a set opening for Flogging Molly on their 2010 Spring tour. Playing under dim lighting, Turner’s set had had me feeling like I was having a minor epiphany about primes as I reached for the humble Nikon 50mm f/1.4.

Blink-182

Under bright, high-contrast spotlights, Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, and Tom DeLonge came together as Blink-182 to tear it up on their 2009 reunion tour.

Green Day

August 11, 2009 – Catching up with Green Day on their arena-busting 21st Century Breakdown Tour was a rush, to say the least. Two songs, three aging punk rockers, and 15,000 screaming fans later, here are the goods.

Pierce The Veil @ Taste of Chaos

March 11, 2009 – Performing on the Taste of Chaos Tour 2009, Pierce the Veil delivered an amped up set of pop-tinged post-hardcore, with Vic Fuentes’s high vocals sailing over the roiling layers thrown down by his bandmates.

Thursday @ Taste of Chaos

March 11, 2009 – Headlining the 2009 Taste of Chaos Tour, post-hardcore rockers Thursday threw down a raw, vein-popping set amid white-hot strobes and LED explosions.

October 19, 2008 – Performing on the Rock Band Live tour, pop rockers The Plain White T’s ripped through a tight and ferociously catchy set that that the house on their feet and singing at the top of their lungs. Led by animated frontman Tom Higgenson, the band performed hits like “Our Time Now,” and [...]

Less Than Jake

“Just move to the front of the stage. Just a little closer. Come in for the real deal.”

Backstage with Paramore

Here’s one more snap from Warped Tour before the full write-up, featuring pop punk darlings Paramore.

Rancid @ Pop’s — 2008.06.28

From the opening bars of “Fall Back Down,” the pit is a seething, frothing mass of bodies, metal studs, and spiked hair. By the second song, crowd surfers are coming toward the stage faster as security can catch them, crashing in waves across the barricade at the front of the pit.

Devotchka @ the Pageant — 2008.05.23

Propelled by the syncopated, asthmatic breath of an accordion, the song gimbals and gyres, wheeling like the robes of a dervish.

Fronted by Nick Urata, whose languid croon filled the big hall with a sense of brooding celebration, Devotchka wove an epic set of gypsy punk in the cavernous Terminal 5.
