Preview: Florence + The Machine @ The Pageant
Quick preview from tonight’s show with Florence + The Machine at the Pageant. Some shows are eye candy for fans, and while this was true, Florence Welch was pure photo candy for music photographers like me. Such a pleasure to shoot.
Photos: Matt & Kim @ The Pageant
Matt & Kim know how to put on a show. I’d first caught them live at Bamboozle 2010, and it was amazing to see these two performers generate as much energy – and more – than full five or six person bands. Even after just the first song, the whole of the Pageant was pretty [...]
Preview: Matt & Kim @ The Pageant
Quick three-image preview from last night’s exuberant performance by Matt & Kim last night at the Pageant. This show was such a blast to shoot – Matt and especially Kim wore the biggest grins in the venue.
Photos: Mumford & Sons @ The Pageant
Mumford & Sons seemed to be easily one of the most anticipated shows of 2011 at the Pageant, and one of the fastest sell-outs of any show in the 10-years the venue has been open.
Photos: Primus @ The Pageant
Les Claypool and company stormed the Pageant and rocked a sold-out house with huge inflatable astronauts, a psychedelic lighting treatment, and Claypool’s signature, funky bass lines driving the performance.
Photos: Jason Aldean @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Jason Aldean brought his “My Kind of Party” tour to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and a sold-out crowd of over 18,000 strong. Way back in 2009, my brother Chris and I shot material for an advertising campaign with Jason Aldean for Wrangler Jeans. At the time, Aldean was a rising star, but still supporting larger [...]
Photos: The Architects @ The Pageant
Opening for Flogging Molly’s 2010 stop at The Pageant, the Architects played a tight set that was a fantastic way to start off the night.
Photos: School of Seven Bells @ The Pageant
I didn’t know anything about School of Seven Bells going into this concert, but I came away a little bit in love with this band after their opening performance for Interpol at the Pageant. With a lush, layered sound and the lighting treatment to match, School of Seven Bells was a treat. Even though their [...]
Photos: Story Of The Year @ The Pageant
I have to admit, I’d forgotten just how fun Story of the Year are to photograph. These guys simply lay it all out on the stage, and never was it so clear as it was watching these guys play to a sold out, home show performance at The Pageant.
Photos: Wild Tiger @ The Pageant
I’ll be honest. I had no idea what to expect with Wild Tigers opening up for Story of the Year at the Pageant, and most of that came from their Myspace page. What I gleaned was that they have songs titled “Hot Woman In Dark Denim” and “The Alligator (Sex In The Swamp),” and a [...]
Preview: Story of the Year @ The Pageant
While I don’t normally post crowd photos as the lead, I have to give it up to the fans present at the Story of the Year show at the Pageant this past weekend – they were rocking as hard as the band. As frontman Dan Marsala said as he looked out over the 2,300 fans [...]
Photos: Ben Folds @ The Pageant
I’ve photographed Ben Folds twice before in the past, but his most recent performance at the Pageant was the first time I caught the prolific piano man with a backing band as well. As if the assortment of instruments on stage before the band walked out wasn’t an indication enough, Ben Folds and his crew [...]
Photos: Chuck Berry @ The Duck Room
After the recent scare in Chicago where Chuck Berry collapsed from exhaustion, I was thrilled at the chance to cover the music icon at an intimate performance last week. While he may have missed a few notes, slowed down a few of his blazing classics and passed the mic to his daughter on occasion, this [...]
Preview: Chuck Berry @ The Duck Room
Here’s one of my favorite snaps from Chuck Berry’s performance at the Duck Room last night. Even at 84, what can I say – the King of Rock and Roll has still got it.
Photos: Brookroyal @ The Pageant
You know what I love to see? A band that rocks out so hard that not even horrible lighting can stop the goodness from being captured in pixels. Brookroyal is one of those bands, so when they opened for My Chemical Romance, I knew I had to catch their performance – lighting be damned.
Photos: Iron & Wine @ The Pageant
Photographing Iron & Wine strikes me as a little zen. With a minimal lighting treatment, very little movement overall, and the lulling sounds of Sam Beam on an acoustic guitar, I think that the music photographer has to work a little harder to make the most of a stark canvas.
Photos: Lifehouse @ The Pageant
After Kris Allen’s performance, it was time for the main event: Lifehouse at the Pageant.
Photos: Kris Allen @ The Pageant
I love when performers go to the edge of the stage to give fans some love at the start of the show, as Kris Allen did on the big stage of the Pageant. The fans love it, it makes for great images, and it completely changing the show right out of the gate. Kris Allen [...]
Photos: Saves The Day @ The Pageant
Hearing Saves The Day open for Say Anything and Motion City Soundtrack was a trip back about ten years. The band’s lighting, however, was challenging enough that it drew me back to the task at hand, which was shooting wide open with a trio of primes and thanking the good engineers at Nikon for the [...]
Photos: Justin Bieber @ Scottrade Center
This show was a little insane. First of all, there are the 14,000+ screaming fans filling the Scottrade arena. Then there’s the 6′+ stage and a very narrow (single file) photo pit. And then there’s the fact that Justin Bieber could probably have a pretty good career in track if he weren’t one of the [...]
Photos: Aaron Lewis @ The Pageant
Performing alone on the big stage of the Pageant on his Solo & Acoustic Tour, Aaron Lewis seemed right at home.
Photos: Motion City Soundtrack @ The Pageant
It’s amazing, but no matter how many times I’ve seen Motion City Soundtrack, they always seem to bring a tremendous amount of energy – whether they’re play a club, a festival, at the start of a tour or the end.
Photos: Say Anything @ The Pageant
Fast action, low light, and singer Max Bemis thrusting out his mic at every opportunity for a big-club sing-along. What do you pack in your photo bag? Nikon’s f/1.4 primes, naturally.
Photos: Roger Waters @ Scottrade Center
30 years after it’s album release, Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters rocked the Scottrade Center with an epic production of The Wall in a shoot that for me was as much fun as it was an honor. What’s more for this legend: five songs from the pit (instead of the standard three) and no photo [...]
