Alt-J @ iHeartRadio Theater in New York

A few weeks ago, I had the assignment of photographing English indie rock band Alt-J at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City. I love photographing these theater shows for iHeartRadio because it's always such a treat to cover such intimate and exclusive shows — the venue only holds around 200-250 people, and tons of amazing acts play shows there, from pop icons to up and comers. Here are some of my favorite shots from this gig.

Shooting these gigs at the iHeartRadio Theater in NYC is always a nice challenge as a music photographer, as they're broadcast live — so while there are no other photographers in the pit, there are three videographers at the front of the stage, including one guy with a full steadicam rig.

At these shows, I'm literally shooting with one eye open to make sure I'm well out of the way of the video crew, who always take precedence. If I don't get one shot, I have plenty of other opportunities — if the video guys have their shots blocked or worse, it's in the live stream for the world to see.

Challenges aside, this concert with Alt-J was awesome. The production was super atmospheric, which perfectly fit the music, with a lot of colorful lighting combinations.
