Embracing the Halloween spirit with face paint, Five Finger Death Punch delivered a fun, high energy set on their headlining stop at the Family Arena. A highlight for me was seeing guitarist Jason Hook not only rocking facepaint like Gene Simmons, but also embracing Simmons's famous outstretched tongue pose and constant posing, which made for some great shooting.

Photographer's Notes:

Cameras Used:

  • Nikon D3
  • Nikon D700

Lenses Used:

This set by Five Finger Death Punch was an absolute blast to shoot. While the three opening bands had varying degrees of the same terrible orange/red lighting, Five Finger Death Punch took the stage with a huge array of lights blasting from the back of the stage. A true arena-worthy lighting rig if I do say so myself.

I shot this show with the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 and Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 exclusively, with the latter doing most of the “heavy lifting.” One great thing about this show was that even though there were tons of monitors at the front of the stage, the stage itself was relatively low – Maybe a little over a meter in height.

Thanks to Five Finger Death Punch, I think I might have bagged one of my favorite shots of 2011, too:

I think it's safe to say that my love affair with the ultra-wide is renewed.
