I had the assignment of shooting Romeo Santos, the “King of Bachata,” for Rolling Stone last month. As a music photographer, it's always a thrill to shoot at big venues. After all, when we all start out in concert photography, it's these big shows that we often dream of, so shooting at a venue as large and renowned as Yankee Stadium was a real treat. Here are some of my favorite images from this shoot for Rolling Stone.

Lighting and overall production for Romeo Santos was pretty awesome. Of course, for a big stadium show like this, I wouldn't expect anything less, but you never know. Sometimes for very large venues, the stage lighting is so far away from the stage due to the scale of the event that light levels can actually be relatively low.

The biggest challenge for this shoot was the relatively high stage, which was a little over two meters tall. The week of the show, I bought an 11″ folding step stool, which turned out to be perfect for this show. The stool gave just enough height to get over the lip of the stage. Best of all, the folding stool was still compact enough to fit in the laptop compartment of my Think Tank Shapeshifter, so transportation was super easy.

This show was great overall. Fantastic lighting and treatment and a seemingly effortless performance by Romeo Santos. As a concert photographer, what more can you ask for?
