After a warm up by EDM Kaoss Pad master Araab MUZIK, Sleigh Bells thrashed the Pageant for the finishing blow. With a stack of Marshalls, a mosh pit on the floor and Alexis Krauss stomping over the stage like a cheerleader from hell, Sleigh Bells delivered just what their fans came for.

Photographer's Notes:

Cameras Used:

  • Nikon D3
  • Nikon D700

Lenses Used:

This show was as fun to photograph as it was difficult. Between spastic lighting, a parapet of monitors at eye level  and the Alexis Krauss's domination on the stage, Sleigh Bells' performance was incredibly difficult as an assignment. Of course, the greater the challenge, the greater the reward, right?

This is a show where I started out with my Nikon 24-70mm on the Nikon D3 and the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR on the Nikon D700, as I often do. However, after seeing the band's setup, I made the decision to switch to the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 on my second body.

Due to the number and spacing of the monitors at the front of the stage, it felt like the sight lines would be too restricted. Thankfully, this hunch paid off – in no small part due to the Alexis Krauss's proclivity toward stepping in front of the monitors, this show was certainly a wide-angle shoot.
