Portraits: The Frantic

The Frantic photographed backstage on Warped Tour, July 5, 2010 (TODD OWYOUNG)

Continuing our portrait series, my brother Chris and I caught up with Chicago-based punk rockers The Frantic backstage on Warped Tour. Rolling with a Profoto AcuteB 600R generator and 600 w/s of power, we had plenty of power to work with, even in mid-afternoon sun. Hit the jump for my favorite image from the shoot with this fun four-piece band.

Photographer's Notes:

This was a great shoot thanks to the enthusiastic guys of The Frantic. Chris and I were shooting backstage at Warped Tour, so locations where a little slim, but we spotted this eagle emblem on the side of one of the trailers that were in the service area of the venue and thought it would make a cool backdrop for the band.

While I normally prefer not to shoot into a flat wall, the eagle and dull metal of the container just seemed too cool to pass up.

The lighting for this set was pretty simple, employing a 3-foot Creative Light Octabox that we used with the Profoto AcuteB 600R system. Daylight did the rest. Generally speaking, the Profoto system was fantastic to work with and the 600 w/s provided more than enough power for what we wanted to do. For most of our work throughout the day, we had a stop or two of power to spare.
